From the Manufacturer

Beyerdynamic''s DT 770 PRO is a closed dynamic headphone, designed for mobile critical music and sound monitoring. The sound of the DT 770 PRO is, without a doubt, a benchmark for professional users. The secret lies not only in the cutting edge drivers, which are hand made in Germany, but also in a very sophisticated bass reflex system. The membrane can breathe in an otherwise closed housing and is therefore extremely quick and precise in its response, accurately reproducing frequencies anywhere between 5 and 35,000 Hz. This makes the DT 770 PRO an ideal tool for critical listening and monitoring purposes. The DT 770 PRO is built to last, with incredible attention to detail and quality. Only the best materials are used, such as neodymium magnets, spring steel headband, anodized aluminum forks, composite housings and soft skin earpads. The single sided cable allows you to handle with ease, and the soft padded headband and earpads provide long wearing comfort. The DT 770 PRO is designed to perform even under extreme conditions. Its superior quality has ensured that the DT 770 PRO is the number one choice for professional users around the world. 80 ohm vs 250ohm + notes on comfort

There haven''t been many reviews out there that cover the differences between the different versions available of this product. I found myself in the possession of both the 80ohm and 250ohm so hopefully this can be helpful to someone!

The first thing I would like to note is that the 80ohm version has a straight cable whereas the 250ohm version has a coiled cable. This difference has a non-obvious impact on comfort: the coiled cable of the 250ohm version makes the headphones feel heavier. That''s because there is more cable that "hangs" off your head. Because the headphones are already pretty lightweight themselves (~270 g) it does make a small but perceivable difference. The straight cable is pretty long so while it will work great at the studio, work or home, it would most likely be a major annoyance if you were planning to use these on the go.

DIFFERENCES IN SOUND
The differences between the two models I''ve reviewed (80ohm and 250ohm) are subtle but they are there. It''s definitely true that the 80ohm version has slightly more bass whereas the 250ohm version has more pronounced highs. I personally love when the bass in a song really pulls you in and makes you want to dance on your desk. With the 80ohm version, I definitely get that. With the other, I kept thinking to myself that the bass was nice, but always a little less impactful than I wished for. If you are the kind of person that boosts the volume of your music until the bass is strong enough, then definitely go for the 80ohm version. I know it''s the more expensive version (as of this writing) but you''ll be glad you spent the extra.

I have noticed that these headphones need at least a couple of hours of "burn-in" to sound their best. So if you''re not super happy with the sound (to me the 250ohms sounded a little harsh at first) then set your headphones in a safe spot and play some pink noise for a couple of hours or even overnight then try again. I know that the effects of burn-in in headphones are a highly debated and controversial subject in the audiophile community. My opinion is that it''s the only (virtually) free method of possibly improving the sound of your headphones prior to first use. So why not give it a try?

IMPEDANCE AND AMPLIFICATION
Why would you consider these really nice headphones if you''re not interested in good sound? The biggest improvement in sound quality I''ve ever noticed after getting nice headphones was when I bought a DAC/AMP. These things really do make a difference. Get a Fiio, Centrance Slim or something like that and you won''t regret it. If you plan on using these on the go (which I wouldn''t recommend because they are fairly big) then definitely go for the 80ohm.

ON COMFORT
One of my favorite feature of those headphones is the detachable headband pad. One thing I was able to do is to cut some NERF darts, cut them in half and slide them in the headband where needed. This allowed the headphones to make better contact with a larger surface on my head, reducing pressure and discomfort. You can also bend the headband a little bit (it is made of metal after all) but I found that the extra padding allowed me to really adapt these to feel great on my head. These headphones are relatively light. The ear pads can get hot after a while but I''ve notice that effect decrease over time.

CONCLUSION
I was looking for the perfect closed-back headphones to use at work. They would need to be comfortable enough to wear for hours at a time and sound great. The Beyerdynamics DT770 Pro 80ohm are perfect for that. I highly recommend them!

These Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro''s are built to last and will bestow a severely pleasurable audio experience into your brain that your ears will surely be thanking you for at this years Thanksgiving dinner. In fact, its all your ears will probably talk about, your guests will no doubt think "Hey, what a nice gesture that this person has made. I respect that". Boom, and just like that you have gained a great product and a higher respect from your peers.
If you are considering these to be your first step toward high end cans and away from your run of the mill, pseudo-high-grade equipment (Ex. Beats by Dre), then I especially recommend them.

I''m using these with the SMSL T2 2X6J9 amplifier, with the stock tubes. Before receiving that I was using a small Squier SP-10 guitar amp to push these, however there was significant background ambient noise. Moving onto using the SMSL amp, I am disappointed with the lack of volume it''s willing to provide, not to mention its utter lack of goals and ambitions. So don''t make the mistake I did, buy a better (more expensive) headphone amplifier.

In terms of sound, they do produce a decent enough flat response. Anything under 30hz is not going to be represented very well. I say this because I just read someones review stating they were rattling their brain with these pushing 5Hz frequencies. I tested this for shigs. Obviously, it didn''t work out well, or at all. More obvious, is that the previously mentioned review was authored by a rampant drug user in the midst of an every-drug-ever-made binge . With that being said, frequencies are represented in a respectable manner for headphones and are an excellent entry into higher quality headphones. I personally use these for casual listening. If you''re looking for production value on a budget might I suggest you consider a pair of PreSonus Eris 3.5" NF Reference Monitors for $100. Unless you''re specifically banished to headphones because of an attempted voodoo love spell gone horrifyingly wrong. I''ve been there.

Just BUY THEM already! and if you don''t love them just return them, because no matter how many reviews you read you''re going to have to experience them yourself. Don''t allow someone else to make up your mind for you here, the subjective beauty of audio is that there''s no right opinion here, it all comes down to your own beautiful biases . However, if you buy these and choose to return them to go back to your skullcandys, you''re clearly harboring masochistic characteristics and I urge you to please visit a psychiatrist.

Oh wait, there is one complaint I''d like to air out here. The headphone bag is generic looking as hell. Its super weak. It was severely disappointing to say the least. This is coming from someone who (weirdly, I know) very much enjoys boxes, containers, and other similar items that hold or organize things.

I initially bought these headphones to replace my Sony MDR-7506s which had broken due to me mishandling them.

Sound:

I mainly use these headphones for music production, recording, and general listening. The frequency response on them is very clear and neutral. What I like most about these headphones is that they don’t color sound. When you hear bass, it’s that bass. It’s not boosted or reduced by the headphones so if you use them to mix, you aren’t deceived into thinking your song sounds like something it’s not.

Quality:

These headphones are of suburb quality. The headband and ear cups surround your ears and head and it feels like a perfect fit when you adjust them. You can also change the band covering if it ever wears out or becomes otherwise damaged. I have yet to change mine and I’ve had these headphones for two years. The padding on the ear cups is a suede type of material and it doesn’t feel sweaty if you wear them for a long time and they also don’t wear out. They’re still just as puffy as the day I bought them.

I bought this after reading so many positive review. I''m left wondering if they sent the right product or a cheap fake product.

First of all, the earphones that came FREE with my sandisk mp3 player sounds better than this. This is the first product made in Germany that I''m not satisfied with.

The sound quality is very poor. It sounds like it''s coming from very far away and dull. It''s not clear at all. When you turn up the volume, there is a lot of distortion.

Bass is completely nonexistent. Even on an equalizer there is hardly any bass. I read reviews saying that this bass is "fantastic" and there''s "a lot of bass". I am wondering if this is the same product? The highs and mids...it''s hard to describe but it sounds like a sort of "muted effect" and sort of muddy. I have no clue what people see in this. It sounds worse than any headphones or earphones I have tried on and I hate when you look at reviews for headphones, this is one of the first headphones that people recommend. It sounds like music is coming out from an old car radio.

It is also really uncomfortable. It clamps closely to your ears but it a minor issue compare to the sound quality. The cord is also really long and annoying. The only good thing is that it feels sturdy but it is a complete waste of money.

Oh, My, Goodness........When I first got these I was disappointed because my phone and my laptop could not drive these very loud. I had an SMSL tube amp and it still could not push these. It also had a slight popping sound that I originally thought was the headphones but turned out to be the 3.5mm headphone cord from the computer to the amp. After I got that fixed up, I had already ordered an 80 ohm version to replace the 250 as well as an FX Audio tube preamp. I compared the 80 ohm and the 250 ohm side to side using 3 different sources (turntable, phone, computer). The 80 ohm just cannot compare to the 250 ohm version. The 250 ohm version does have some very bright highs, and subdued lows compared to the 80 ohm, but the lows are much much more precise and punchier than the 80 ohms. The brightness is rounded off quite a bit when run through the preamp and amp. The 250 ohm just simply put reproduced the sound to a far better extent than the 80 ohm. The 80 ohm version is great, don''t get me wrong, but the sound from the 250 ohm pair is just not comparable to any headphones I have ever heard, simple as that.
You really, really, really....did I say really? Really need a powerful amp for these. Even my SMSL alone was not enough to power these to any sort of high volume. The preamp increased the gain and made these useable with the SMSL and even "tubed" up the sound a bit more! I just cannot say enough good things about the 250 ohm version. They beat the hell out of anything else at the $150 price point.

No buyers remorse here. There''s a reason for the plethora of 5 star reviews. I use these for studio work and they smoke anything else I have. I have larger ears and these are super comfortable on my head. I have a pair of B&Os I use for listening to music but after a few hours my ears are sore. Not with these. Now, I''ll be honest, for pure music enjoyment I haven''t heard anything as clean as my B&O H7s but I did note I''m using these for studio work. If you use these (or any quality headphone) with your computer you''ll need an amp. I have an affordable FiiO E10K and it''s another 5 star product for the price.

Update: I''ve been listening to music with these lately. They are as good as any I''ve heard. These are by far the best budget cans out there. Hook up to an affordable amp and trust me, you''ll be amazed.

Update: 7/20/2018 - After some burn in, these things keep getting better. I''ve retired my B&Os because they hurt my ears. These are nice and large and the pads are comfortable enough for 4 hourish listening.

Anyway, these headphones give quite good depth and frequency response. No pumped up lows, rather , natural response with very minor peaks and dips.
Highs are smooth without any harsh peaks. I bought 32 ohm versions for several technical reasons.
They are comfortable, but if you''re in a warm environment for over an hour or two you may find them a bit confining.
I listen to music, instructional material, etc. and find them to be a "stress free" listen, other than the warmth and weight compared to my open air Sennheisers. The plus is these Beyer models shut out surrounding sounds VERY well and give great, balanced presentation.

Pros: Audiophile quality sound from small devices like an iPod, phone, MP3 player, etc. without the need for a signal boost/amp. Very comfortable to wear. Built like tank. Sound signature is "flat" so you are hearing what the music producers wanted you to hear from an EQ balance perspective.
Cons: Cable is built-in, and not very flexible. Bass performance is slightly lacking, and trebles may be too bright. Leather pads might be too warm for some people.

I really liked these headphones. The sound quality is amazing, and if you have never had a set of true audiophile headphones, you will be amazed at all the detail you will discover in music you have listened to a thousand times. Yes, they are that clear, and it may take you several hours to get used to really hearing music for the first time in your life. At 32 ohms, these are specifically for people who want to listen to music from a small portable player like an MP3 player, phone, etc. without having to boost the signal to higher ohms. To say the sound is ''sparkly'' is quite accurate. However, to me the highs are just on the edge of becoming fatiquing over a long listening session (more than 1 hour). And the bass frequency response goes lower than most headphones which is quite impressive...however, the overall bass volume/output is a bit lacking. Not saying it''s bad...you can hear and feel the low bass which is satisfying, but you still want "just a little bit more" because it''s so good.

I found the headphones very comfortable, and I have a medium to large head size. The earcups do become a bit warm over time, but I did not find them uncomfortably warm. However, this is something you may want to consider if you prefer plush style earcups. The biggest annoyance for me was the cable: The length was fine but it does not detach from the headphones, and it is not rubbery but rather "plastic-y" so not as flexible as I would prefer. My worry is that over time, you might bend the attachment at the earcup to the point it either breaks or the sound will be come scratchy or intermittant. Because I travel heavily and want over the ear headphones, I am constantly putting headphones in a case, backpack, etc. and this worries me for this set. If Beyerdynamic made this with a removable cord...they would crush competitors in this price range with these headphones. In fact, I probably would have kept them...but with the cord plus my slight dissatisfaction with the bass output I reluctantly returned them.

At the end of the day--This would make a GREAT gift for someone or yourself who loves music and listens primarly through a small MP3 player or phone, and who has not had audiophile quality headphones.

AKG, Audio-Technica, Shure, Grado - was auch immer. Also vielleicht doch Absicht.
AKG, Audio-Technica, Shure, Grado - was auch immer.

If you have quality source and Amp go for higher ohm models
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 9, 2018
They''re OK but I would recommend going to 250 ohm ones, at least 80 ohm ones as 32ohm DT''s are just to muddy for anything Studio/Pro/HiFi related. Hence the Mobile use reference. But that goes with price. Bear in mind that this is review when you have quality source in use....See more

But that goes with price. Bear in mind that this is review when you have quality source in use. I can write this below and then c/p to all my DT''s Reviews: What is the difference between higher ohm and 32ohm DT headphones everyone is asking? Which one should I choose? Higher ohm ones have more quality, I want them! No, that is not completely true. Read below: 32ohm => If you listen to Youtube/SpotifyFree and you don''t have Quality Amp/DAC then 32ohm DT''s WILL sound better and be better choice. Higher OHM=> If you have a good Amp which can drive 100ohm+ headphones, you have a quality DAC, you listen to at least 320kbit MP3''s, but usually FLAC/CD/DVD/Tidal then yes, higher ohm headphones will sound better. Getting a quality DAC and Amp costs money (a lot of) so if you don''t have it and you don''t want to invest in it than skip higher ohm ones if you don''t listen to HQ music. However, will you get better sound with more ohms, that is correct, yes. As explained in a simple thing, more ohms with more "resistance" will "return speakers much faster in place where they''ve been". More faster they return they will faster continue reproducing another sound/wave, hence the usage in Pro/Studio equipment to spot any issues.
